Thirty-eight persons from the community including the Gaia Women of the Great Lakes Basin, friends and members of the Canada South Land Trust and Essex County Field Naturalists's Club joined owner Bill Balkwill for a "Woodland Song and Walk" on Sunday, April 27, 2008.
Volunteers Shirley Grondin and Linda Kennette are organizing a fund raising CSLT yard sale scheduled from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2008.

Thirty friends and members of the Canada South Land Trust gathered on December 6, 2007 at the Essex Civic Centre for a special event arranged by the Land Trust. Land Trust Director Terry Anderson introduced the evening's guest speaker Tom Hince.
The twenty-third annual Cedar Creek Christmas Bird Count (CBC) was held on December 16, 2007. The Cedar Creek CBC is an area within a fifteen mile radius of Cedar Creek including the Town of Essex in which American Crows have traditionally had a winter roost. Area 2 of the CBC extends from County Road 34 (Talbot Trail) south to Lake Erie.
The Songs of Insects with CD (Audio) was presented to guest speaker Paul Pratt following his talk at the CSLT 5th Annual General Meeting on March 6, 2008.
Eighteen Canada South Land Trust friends and members gathered at the Essex Civic Centre for the Land Trust's 5th Annual General Meeting. Vice President David Ainslie welcomed everyone as the meeting got underway at 7:30 p.m. in Room C.
Bill Balkwill takes daily walks on his Lands, reporting the wildlife sightings in conversations with friends. During the first week of the New Year, both Bill Balkwill and Jack Balkwill reported large flocks of Snow Buntings in the vicinity of their Lands gravel entrance lane which has agricultural lands to both the east and west. Several dark birds within the flocks were thought to be Lapland Longspurs.
January 14, 2008 Bill Balkwill observed a flock of six or seven at tree top height in the woodland.
Owner Bill Balkwill reported that he saw the tracks of a mink this past third week of February 2008. The tracks in the snow were large, likely indicating a male.
Bill Balkwill reported that on March 3, 2008, a dozen American Robins were seen with a flock of European Starlings. The shape of the Robins caught Bil's attention as they perched in trees near the patio.
Bill Balkwill reports a single Turkey Vulture in the neighborhood on March 22, 2008. Two Killdeer were also observed. Snow fell overnight, approximately 10 cm.
