Canada South Land Trust Activities from January 2007 – December 2007

An integrated Plan of Survey including UTM coordinates was obtained for the Balkwill Lands in February 2007.

The fourth annual General Meeting of the Land Trust was held on March 1, 2007 at the Essex Civic Centre. Tom Preney, staff person with the Ojibway Nature Centre, was our guest speaker, presenting a program on the repatriation of the Massasauga Rattlesnake to the Ojibway Provincial Prairie Nature Reserve.

The AGM was reported upon by the Essex Free Press, The Kingsville Reporter and the La Salle Silhouette.

Fifty persons took part in a spring walk lead by Bill Balkwill in the Balkwill Woods on April 29, 2007.

The Seventh Annual Thames River Symposium held in Chatham was attended by Land Trust Directors David Ainslie and Betty Learmouth on April 14, 2007 who provided a display for the event.

Earth Day at Mic Mac Park in the City of Windsor on April 22, 2007 was attended Land Trust Directors David Ainslie and Betty Learmouth who provided a display for the event.

Registration of the Balkwill Lands Conservation Agreement took place on-line on April 13, 2007.

Nikki May of the Carolinian Canada Coalition met with interested parties on June 14, 2007, including the Canada South Land Trust, to begin work on a natural heritage fact sheet for the City of Windsor, the County of Essex and Pelee Island.

On June 14, 2007, the Ontario Land Trust Alliance, held a workshop in Cayuga, Ontario which provided useful information for the monitoring of lands under a Conservation Agreement.

On June 16, 2007, the Canada South Land Trust held its fund raising prairie walk and supper at the Ojibway Nature Centre.

In October 2007, consultant Michelle Albanese prepared a document entitled The Ten Top Things to Remember When Doing Your Baseline Documentation Report as part of an Ontario Land Trust Alliance Baseline Documentation Report case study.

A launch was held by the Carolinian Canada Coalition on December 6, 2007 for the Essex Fact Sheet.

Tom Hince prepared a special presentation for the Land Trust on the Birds of Ecuador to be shown at the Essex County Civic Centre on December 6, 2007
