Canada South Land Trust's guiding document, the Natural Heritage Preservation Strategy, was published in June 2005 and presented to the Land Trust's directors at the Land Trust's July 7th, 2005 board meeting. The Natural Heritage Preservation Strategy compilation was funded through a generous grant from The Ontario Trillium Foundation. During the document's preparation, author and Consulting Ecologist Gerry Waldron gathered material from many sources as well as drawing upon his experience related to our natural heritage in Essex County and the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

The baseline inventory is the tool from which the Canada South Land Trust will monitor property, access change over time and ensure the easement agreement is being upheld.
Landowners Bill and Jack Balkwill know the trees and herbaceous plants of their natural areas well as they have studied their woodland for over thirty years. When it was suggested that a plant inventory should be conducted, Bill Balkwill got the process underway by examining a Pelee Island plant list compiled by Natural Heritage Information Centre's staff person Mike Oldham.
Canada South Land Trust member Tom Ayles had indicated that he would be willing to undertake the ground photography necessary for the Balkwill property baseline report.
Landowner Bill Balkwill reports that on November 3, 2005, at about 9:30 p.m. two coyotes were observed crossing his property's gravel entrance lane.
Canada South Land Trust's table top display was newly designed this fall. Photographs of the Balkwill Pond and Prairie Grass restoration site were obtained on September 1, 2005, coinciding with the peak display of Indian Grass and various flowering prairie species.
The Land Trust Standards and Practices are guidelines for the responsible operation of a land trust, which is run legally, ethically, and in the public interest, and which conducts a sound program of land transactions and stewardship.
Ontario's umbrella organization for its land trusts is the Ontario Land Trust Alliance. In order to provide up to date information regarding a number of topics of interest to Ontario land trust members, such as board members, the Ontario Land Trust offers regional workshops and a yearly conference.
Ten Canada South Land Trust friends and members gathered at Penelope Potter's property at 3:30 p.m. on June 11, 2005 for a guided tour lead by naturalist Paul DesJardins.
For a second year, the Canada South Land Trust arranged a fund raising event at Holiday Beach Conservation Area in cooperation with the passerine banders of the Holiday Beach Migration Observatory.
Seventeen CSLT members and friends gathered on December 1, 2005 for a supper and presentation at the Essex Civic Centre.
