In June 2003, the Canada South Land Trust received notification of a generous one year grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation for funds that will assist the CSLT with its organization.
A top priority of the Canada South Land Trust is the provision of a guiding document, a "Resource and Strategy Guide" for the land trust which will guide the organization's activities over the next five years. Ontario Trillium Foundation grant monies will allow a consulting ecologist (Gerry Waldron has accepted the CSLT's invitation to undertake this work) to write such a document which will show the natural areas, including core areas, corridors and where restoration could significantly enhance these areas in Essex County and the Municipality of Chatham- Kent. This document would suggest areas where the Canada South Land Trust might focus, providing strategies the land trust might take to protect and preserve natural habitat, especially in areas where other conservation groups are not working or would not work to protect natural habitat.
Ontario Trillium Foundation funding also provides for the services of a graphic artist (Scott Hughes has accepted our invitation to undertake this work) to design a logo, business cards, letterhead and a brochure as well as providing the design, layout and production of the "Resource and Strategy Guide."
Equipment that will be useful to the Canada South Land Trust is also provided by the Ontario Trillium Foundation grant, including a digital camera, table top presenatation board, fax machine and filing cabinet.
The Canada South Land Trust website will soon be up and running as funds have been provided by the Ontario Trillium Foundation for three years of maintenance of a web site.
